All Xpress Academy are eligible to enroll in the Southwest Virginia Elite Soccer Academy.

Southwest Virginia Elite Soccer Academy is a coalition of 5 local soccer clubs (Valley AFC, New River United, CSC, Radford & Giles) who have joined together to give players in the New River Valley the opportunity to train with the best coaching, facility, and teammates this area has to offer.  Open to all U8, U9 and u10 academy players (boys and girls) from all five clubs, this opportunity is for those players seeking more!

Training will take place on the Virginia Tech turf fields on Friday nights starting April 5th and going until May 10th being 6 sessions. 

Each player will receive a SVSA Elite training t-shirt.

Cost: $60/player which covers t-shirt, field rental and coaching.

Coaching: Will be provided by all clubs but will include both Radford and VT staff members and players

Time: 

  • Girls: 5:30 - 6:45 pm
  • Boys: 6:45 - 8:00 pm

Training sessions will be similar to current academy philosophy of all clubs with all coaches running similar practice plans.  All players will be trained in a top level environment.

We are hopeful that this relationship between clubs will allow us all to continue to build to a top level soccer academy that provides an atmosphere for players of all levels!

Registration is open now and will close on March 29th!

We are looking for more donations (uniforms, cleats: especially size 6 & up, etc).  Please drop donations by the soccer office.

Tim Radford, Xpress U19B Green, made the 1st Team State for AA High Schools and has committed to play at the College of Charleston.  The Hidden Valley Senior was Captain for the Titans this spring and went on to earn the following recognition:

2012 Awards

  • 1st Team River Ridge District
  • 1st Team Region IV
  • 1st Team State AA
  • 1st Team All Timesland - Roanoke Times
  • Selected to the West Squad for the VHSCA All Star Boys Soccer held on July 11th at Christopher Newport University.  (Tim gave the game winning assist (CK) to Ryan Flesh (Osbourn Park) golden goal in the double overtime win over the East squad.)

The Xpress would like to congratulate Tim and his family on all of his accomplishments and wish him nothing but continued success in college.

In order to continue to provide soccer at the highest level in Southwest Virginia, we are excited to announce that Valley AFC and New River United will form a partnership beginning with Tryouts this year for their U16-U18 Boys teams. 

Using coaching staffs from both clubs, which includes Division 1 NCAA coaches and former professional players, focus will continue to be on the development and growth of each individual while providing true insight into the college track process.

Both clubs working alongside one another towards a common goal of providing the best atmosphere for all of our players in the region, allows for us to focus our attention on our players best interests instead of simply competing with one another for talent.

The immediate impact on the clubs will be as follows:

  • U16-U18 boys from both clubs will tryout together April 28 and May 6
  • Invite only tryout will take place at the Virginia Tech Varsity Practice facility on May 12th & 13th.  
  • All players will register for tryouts here>> 
  • Coaching duties will be decided jointly
  • Team Training for those teams will be split between Virginia Tech and Roanoke

Initially the teams will continue to play in the Skyline League.  They will be entering into 2-3 proper level tournaments where they will have the ability to show well and compete against better competition.

We are excited about the new relationship between clubs and look forward to building the absolute best environment for soccer players in Southwest Virginia.
