VAFC Xpress Wins Championship at Richmond Strikers Fall Classic

This past weekend saw the girls weekend of the annual Richmond Strikers Fall Capital Classic. 8 VAFC Xpress teams traveled to Richmond for what proved to be another enjoyable and competitive venue.

In their last travel tournament, the Xpress 96 Girls Green won the championship.  The Xpress 02 Girls Green and Xpress 01 Girls green both went 3-1 and were finalists.

Xpress 96 Girls Green

The girls went 3-1, outscoring their opponents 7-3. All 3 wins were shutouts.

Valley AFC is so proud of these girls and so glad they finished their travel careers with the championship!

Xpress 02 Girls Green

Congratulations to the Xpress 02 Girls Green for being a Finalist in the top flight of the Richmond Strikers' Fall Capital Classic.

The flight consisted of 5 teams with the championship being determined on a 4 game schedule.

In their first match on Saturday, the Xpress beat the Richmond Strikers Orange Elite, winning 2-0. A year previous the girls, playing their first game together, lost to them 8-2 at the Virginia Cup.

The girls' second game was played 90 minutes later against the Future SC Monarchs, a top rated and talented team from Maryland. Trailing 2-1 with 10 minutes to go, the girls fatigued and ended up losing 4-1. The loss snapped the girls' unbeaten streak at 46-0-5.

On Sunday the girls beat the FC Richmond Mystx 3-0 in their first game of the day. In their final game, the Xpress trailed the Herndon YS Hurricanes 1-0 at halftime. The girls opened the second half with a goal in the first 30 seconds and went on to win 3-1.

The Xpress finished with 29 points in the tournament, 2 points behind the Monarchs who won the championship.

The result capped another successful season for the girls which included:

Finalists at the Fall Kickoff Classic (U13 Division playing 11v11)
Championship at CVU's Region 2000 Cup
Championship at Beach FC's Columbus Day Soccer Tournament
Finalists in the Skyline Premier League

Xpress 01 Girls Green

Congratulations to the Xpress 01 Girls Green for being a Finalist at the Richmond Strikers' Fall Capital Classic.

The girls went 2-1-1 with 2 shutouts, before losing a hard fought championship game to the TCSC Revolution (ranked #1 in West Virginia).

The championship completed an incredibly successful season for the girls, who also won championships in the Fall Kickoff Classic Tournament, the Region 2000 Cup and the Skyline Premier League.
