VALLEY AFC TO BUILD REGIONAL SOCCER COMPLEX

Land Purchase Agreement Confirmed

Valley AFC is proud to confirm the purchase of approximately 30 acres of land from Roanoke Valley Industrial Development & Investment Company (RVIDICO) for the purpose of developing a world-class, community friendly, regional soccer complex.  The proximity of this park-like development will be adjacent to the Roanoke River Greenway and within 1-mile of downtown Roanoke, Mill Mountain, The Blue Ridge Parkway and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.

This project underscores Valley AFC’s +30-year history of developing soccer programs for all ages, abilities and interest levels throughout the Roanoke Valley.  The long-term vision for this exciting development is to yield multiple, high-quality playing fields and related facilities to be used for player development, games, regional tournaments and soccer camps.  This is also a commitment to improving Roanoke’s quality of life by supporting youth activities throughout the Valley that build character and encourage physical activity.  Valley AFC was represented by Will Trinkle, Broker of C. W. Francis Real Estate and partner in the adjoining Roanoke Industrial Center. As part of the genuine team effort to see this project through the 4 years it took to complete, he contributed 50% of his commission to Valley AFC.  Will sees this as not just an asset to the RIC and Roanoke River Greenway, but to the South East neighborhood of Roanoke City and the Roanoke Valley as a whole.

Valley AFC is proud and excited to partner with Carilion Clinic in developing the soccer complex.  The partnership was designed to not just benefit the community’s soccer players but also help improve overall health of the community in Southeast Roanoke.  Future health related events are planned at the new fields with Carilion Clinic which goes to further Valley AFC’s commitment to being a community based non-profit that works to improve the community we live and play in.

“In addition to the obvious benefits related to this unique green space project, the positive economic impact of a soccer facility of this quality and magnitude will yield millions of dollars annually for the local economy.  Throughout the United States, well organized soccer tournaments held at similar facilities routinely attract hundreds of teams, multiple times throughout the year.  It is anticipated that families will visit Roanoke from other regions to enjoy our world-class soccer facility and the beauty of the Roanoke Valley, while also patronizing local hotels, restaurants and other regional tourist destinations”, says Valley AFC representative, Andrew Gentiluomo.

Valley AFC Members,

On behalf of the Board of Directors I am excited to announce that your Soccer Club, Valley AFC has entered into a contract to purchase land to develop a world class soccer complex right here in Roanoke. Some of you may have already practiced at the location which we have referred to as IDICO. A special committee of the Board of Directors has been formed to complete the due diligence of securing the property. We have received tremendous support from the local neighborhood communities to create a soccer jewel that will provide dedicated fields for our Club and further our mission of "Soccer for All".

The new Soccer Complex is projected to be completed in phases and a Capital Fundraising Program will start soon. The continued support of our membership will allow this Complex to be a wonderful place for our children and grandchildren to play soccer at.

The Roanoke Times has indicated that a newspaper article will be forthcoming so look forward to reading about it (article). This truly is momentous news for our kids, our Club, and our community in more ways than we can count. We look forward to you joining us in helping the Club make this substantial undertaking a reality in our Valley.

If you have any questions or ways to help this project meet completion please feel free to contact any Board Member or myself (contact us).

Best Regards,
Steve Simon
President, VALLEY AFC
