National Cup Program Kicked Off With An Exciting Weekend In Williamsburg!

The Valley AFC National Cup Program kicked off the Winter portion of the program this past January.  Although it was cold, the players brought the heat with their hard work, passion, and creativity in training.  The program is made up for 4 teams with players over multiple age groups.  The teams completed the winter portion of the program by attending the President's Day Cup & Showcase in Williamsburg, VA.  The tournament hosted over 90 teams from seven different states!  Teams from Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia all came to compete at the beautiful Warhill Sports Complex!

The U17 Girls team finished the tournament undefeated in the top showcase division.  The team competed against teams from Maryland, Virginia, & Pennsylvania.  The U17 Boys team went undefeated in group play on Saturday and then lost in a tough contest in the showcase final on Sunday.  They were in the top showcase division and competed against teams from Virginia & Pennsylvania.  The U14 Boys teams finished the tournament as Finalists.  After 3 exciting games in the group stage, the team ran out of gas in the final losing to a quality VA Legacy team.  The U14 Girls competed in the top U15 age bracket and faced some top class competition.  They kicked off the weekend by playing the New York State Champion and then followed that up with a top ranked VA Legacy team.  On Sunday the team was a bit unlucky to not get a result against the U15 VA Legacy team giving up a late second half goal.  The teams will be gearing back up for the Southeast Regional Championships this June.  National Cup here we come!
